Question: Will it scratch?
Answer: Since the goal is to protect your car door from paint scratches and paint chips, we had to ensure it did not add scratches when you used it on a regular basis. For this very reason we went to great lengths to select the proper outer covering material to encase the bumper pads and magnets as this material would also be acting as a barrier between the magnets and your car.
With that goal in mind, a textile expert was brought in during the design process, and charged with finding a suitable fabric covering that was tough but soft. The textile consultant worked with the inventor and company designers at Doordefender to come up with the best fabric that would be durable, flexible, weatherproof, strong, colour blocked, yet soft. It has a soft felt scratch proof pad sewn to the underside of the Doordefender to prevent the possibility of scratching. So when the Doordefender is installed on your door, this soft felt pad comes between your door and the Dooordefender. Don't worry though the magnetic field is still strong enough to hold your Doordefenders on your door securely through the felt barrier.
So to answer the question “Will it scratch my car paint?” In a word... no.
Caution: foreign objects could get lodged in the felt pad. The felt pad should be checked for these objects before installing on your door. The felt pad should also be occasionally vacuumed to remove dirt and dust that might build up or get lodged in the pad.
Question: I thought I only needed door edge protectors?
Answer: Protecting your car door edges with edge guards is not a bad idea and a very neighbourly thing to do. While it will prevents chips on the edges of your doors and shows you to be a considerate parking neighbour, it doesn't prevent the person parking beside you from opening their door and slamming it right into the middle for yours!
However, even if they did have an edge guard by some stroke of luck, it may not be able to absorb the impact sufficiently. While you wouldn't get paint chips in the middle of your door, you could still get a really nasty dent.

An example of the strength is that the Doordefender was driven down the highway on a car at 90 miles per hour and it was still firmly stuck to the car door. Caution: the Doordefender is only meant to be used while the vehicle is parked and should be removed when your vehicle is set in motion.
Question: Can I use it on my garage walls as well?
Answer: Yes, you can!
This portable car door protector can be used as a portable garage wall bumper pad, that's the exciting added bonus of purchasing the Doordefender. Extending the use of your Doordefenders to your garage walls is easy to do using common materials found at any ttools outlet and one of these simple mounting methods.
As the Doordefender is magnetic all you need is a length of metal strip. Mount the metal strip on the garage wall at the height where your door "hits" and now you can magnetically stick your doordefender on the wall making it a garage wall guard. It's that easy.
Using four 7.62[cm] diameter hose clamps, space the hose clamps out so they end up at the end of end of each bumper pad, fasten the hose clamps to the wall at the height of impact. Next slip the bumper pads into the hose clamps and tighten, that's it your done.
